01 · Overview

What is full truckload shipping?

Full truckload (FTL) shipping gives your freight an entire trailer. The truck is loaded at your dock, sealed, and driven directly to the receiver — no terminal stops, no cross-docking and no other shippers’ cargo on board. That direct route makes FTL the fastest and lowest-risk way to move large volumes by road.

IGT Logistics books full truckloads across the 48 contiguous states and cross-border into Canada and Mexico, with dry vans, reefers, flatbeds and step decks. Whether you ship one load a month or run a daily lane, you get one point of contact, live tracking and an all-in rate before you book.

When FTL is the right choice

  • 10+ pallets or over 15,000 lbs
  • Freight fills over half a trailer
  • Fragile or high-value goods
  • Fixed delivery appointments
  • Temperature-controlled or hazmat
  • A sealed trailer, start to finish

FTL vs LTL

FTL vs LTL: choosing the right shipping method

Every shipper eventually faces the same question: book a full truckload or share space with less-than-truckload (LTL) freight? With LTL shipping, your pallets are loaded onto a trailer alongside other shippers’ cargo and move through terminals before reaching their final destination. A full truckload shipment reserves the entire trailer for you, so the truck travels directly from your dock to the receiver.

As a rule of thumb, less than truckload service is cost-effective for 1–6 pallets, while FTL shipping wins once your freight fills more than half a trailer, weighs over 15,000 lbs or is high-value. Fewer touches mean less damage risk and a shorter, more predictable transit time.

Equipment

Dry van, reefer and flatbed truckload shipments

The right trailer protects your cargo and keeps your delivery time on track. A dry van covers most palletized freight — packaged goods, retail and paper products. When products must stay cold, a reefer can refrigerate or freeze loads from -20°F to 70°F with continuous temperature monitoring. Oversized materials ride on flatbeds and step decks.

Tell us your commodity, weight and pallet count, and our team matches each truckload shipment with a vetted carrier running the right equipment on your lane.

05 · Cost estimate

Estimate your FTL rate

Get a ballpark in seconds. Full truckload is priced per load, so distance and equipment matter most — extras and short-notice pickups add on top.

What affects full truckload rates

  1. Distance & lane — busy outbound markets cost more
  2. Equipment — reefers and flatbeds cost more than vans
  3. Weight & size — heavy or oversized freight needs special gear
  4. Fuel — weekly surcharge tied to the national diesel average
  5. Extra services — stops, detention, tarping, unloading
  6. Season — produce season, holidays, quarter-end
  7. Lead time — same-day pickups carry a premium

Time-critical freight

Time-sensitive and high-value freight shipping

When a missed appointment means a stopped production line or an empty shelf, time-sensitive freight needs an entire truck working for you alone. With no terminal stops, an FTL shipment typically reaches its final destination days faster than an LTL load on the same route, and team drivers can cut transit time even further.

High-value shipments benefit from a sealed trailer, a single carrier and real-time GPS updates from pickup to delivery — so you always know where your shipment is and when it will arrive.
